The 89th Infantry Division served from 1942 to 1945 after its reactivation at Camp Carson, Colorado, on July 15, 1942, in World War II. Its organization included division headquarters, special troops, the 353rd, 354th, and 355th Infantry, division artillery headquarters and headquarters battery, the 340th, 341st, 914th, and 563rd Field Artillery Battalions, the 314th Combat Engineer Battalion, and the 314th Medical Battalion. Its service took it through Camp Carson, the Louisiana and Hunter Liggett maneuvers as a light division, Camp Butner, North Carolina, Boston for embarkation, Le Havre for debarkation, Lucky Strike, Blangy, Mersch in Luxembourg, and combat with Third Army at the Moselle and Rhine assault crossings, Hersfeld, Eisenach, Ohrdruf, Arnstadt, Werdau, Zwickau, and the Mulde River, followed by occupation duty at Gotha and the Normandy Assembly Area. It is remembered for the men who wore the Rolling W with honor and died for their country on the battlefields of Europe.
