The garden was established in the 1930's and was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). It was officially renamed Ben Rau Memorial Garden in 1974 after his death. Rau volunteered his services to the St. Charles Parks and Recreation Board from 1940 to 1973 and owned and operated Parkview Gardens. The garden was renovated in 1987 with the current pavers, and in the 90's the rest of the garden was transformed. The Angel of Hope Statue was added in 1998.
