Methuselah is a Great Basin bristlecone pine in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest of California’s White Mountains, where high elevation, cold, wind, and poor soils have helped it survive for millennia. Long regarded as the oldest confirmed living non-clonal tree, its exact age remains uncertain because of missing core evidence. Samples taken in 1957 produced an age of 4,789 years, while a later study gave a lower estimate of about 4,668 years as of 2019. Its precise location was long kept secret to protect it. Methuselah also represents the scientific importance of bristlecone pines for dendrochronology and long-term climate research.
