John Garrett and Abraham Dyson and their families arrived as the first settlers among the Wyandot Indians. In 1804, Silver Creek received its name. In 1805, the first grist mill and saw mill were erected. In 1874, the village was incorporated. In 1886, saloons were abolished. People of New England stock came to this part of the Western Reserve, and in later generations furnished many defenders of the nation as well as foremost leaders in religion, education, philanthropy, and art.
