Church of the Ascension is an English Gothic structure designed by Richard Upjohn, built in 1840-41 and redecorated about 1888 from plans by Stanford White. “The Ascension,” the well known mural by John LaFarge, is above the altar. Here President John Tyler married Julia Gardiner on June 26, 1844.
