Born in Norwalk, Ohio on September 7, 1908, Paul Brown became head coach at Massillon in 1932 at the age of 24. Over his nine-year career there, he compiled an 80-8-2 record with six state and three national championships. He remains the only football coach in history to have won national championships at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels. Beyond his achievements in football, he was regarded as a man of exceptional character who conducted himself with class and dignity, planned and executed meticulously, and sacrificed personal goals for the greater good of the team, qualities his teams also displayed. His impact on the Massillon community was especially strong during the Great Depression, when he instilled pride, confidence, and camaraderie. Brown deeply cherished Massillon and said that coaching at Massillon High School was the best job he ever had because it was where he was able to do the most good in the world.
