During the Walker Indian War of 1853-54, this fort was built as a 60-rod square with corner buttresses formed of logs. Its adobe, rock, and mud walls stood 8 feet tall, were 4 feet wide at the bottom and 2 feet at the top, and rested on a rock foundation with a deep 4-foot trench around the outside.
