CWOW Gallery, or City Without Walls Gallery, was a Newark, New Jersey, not-for-profit alternative art space that operated from 1975 to 2018. Located in the Lincoln Park/The Coast Cultural District, it was New Jersey’s oldest not-for-profit alternative art space and remained active for 43 years. Focused on contemporary art, it supported new and emerging artists while giving the public access to challenging work. Members curated exhibitions in its main gallery, off-site locations, and a space at One Newark Center, with roughly six to ten shows each year. Through programs including City Murals, Newark New Media, and ArtReach, it became a lasting part of Newark’s alternative arts scene.
