Crane Beach in Ipswich, Massachusetts is a 1,234-acre conservation and recreation area with a four-mile sandy shoreline, dunes, maritime pitch pine forest, and trails through the beachfront landscape. Given to the public in 1945 by Florence Higinbotham Crane and her family, it is part of the larger Crane Estate with Castle Hill and the Crane Wildlife Refuge, and is managed by The Trustees of Reservations. A local tradition, Crane Beach Day, began in 1911 with a birthday celebration for Cornelius Crane and has continued since. The beach is also an important nesting site for the threatened piping plover and has appeared in films including The Thomas Crown Affair and Little Women.
