Woolaroc, established in 1925 as Frank Phillips’s ranch retreat in Oklahoma’s Osage Hills, developed into a museum and wildlife preserve that joins art, open range, and preserved landscape. The 3,700-acre property supports more than 30 species of native and exotic animals and includes a nature trail and a living history mountain man camp. Its museum began in 1929 as a hangar for the race-winning airplane Woolaroc from the 1927 Dole Air Race and grew into major collections of Western art, American Indian material, taxidermy, Colt firearms, and models from the Pioneer Woman statue competition. Preserved through the Phillips family foundation, it remains an educational institution.
