The Osage Nation Museum in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, is devoted to preserving and presenting Osage history, art, and culture through photographs, historical artifacts, and traditional and contemporary art. Founded in 1938, it is the oldest tribally owned museum in the United States. Historian Louis F. Burns helped shape the museum by donating much of his personal collection of artifacts and documents, forming an important foundation for its holdings. The museum is part of a wider Osage Nation effort to preserve and renew its heritage through historic preservation, archives, cultural programs, and Osage language revival for children, youth, and adults.
