Osage Hills State Park, a one thousand one hundred-acre recreation area in eastern Osage County, began in 1935 as one of the seven original state parks built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. CCC crews used local stone and timber to create naturalistic buildings that still define the park, and several structures from that era remain, including guest cabins and a large stone picnic shelter. The park centers on camping, hiking, fishing, swimming, and wildlife watching around Lookout Lake, Sand Creek, and its trails. It also preserves visible remains of the CCC camp and stands as an enduring example of CCC parkitecture in Oklahoma.
