Pete Pierson was the original blacksmith at this shop, but he soon sold the business to Joe Egg, who ran it for fifty years. As late as 1973, Egg was well known in Bend and Redmond as an ace blacksmith. In that year, he said that although his trade was fast becoming outdated by acetylene torches and electric welding, he could still fix almost anything and still shod horses. The building is the finest example of an early blacksmith shop left in the county.
