Robert McDonald was a Medal of Honor recipient who served as a captain in the 5th U.S. Infantry during the Indian Wars. He was born on May 12, 1822, and died on May 20, 1901. An inscription associated with him includes the Latin words, “Ego sum resurrectio et vita; qui credit in me, etiamsi mortuus fuerit vivet; et quisquis vivit, et credit in me, non morietur in aeternum. Credis hoc. Aio, domine,” translated as, “I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he be dead, yet shall he live; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. You believe this. Yes, sir.”
