Francis J. Pierce received the Medal of Honor for his service in World War II during the Iwo Jima campaign on 15-16 March 1945 as a Pharmacist's Mate 1st Class with the 2d Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division, U.S. Navy.
