The Reformed Church at Providence held its first communion in John Herpel's barn on Nov. 5, 1742. Its first log church was erected in the cemetery in 1747 on East Seventh Avenue, and the Rev. John Philip Boehm served as its first pastor. The site was later occupied by the Stone Church from 1835 to 1874.
