The Frey-Haverstick Site in Manor Township, Pennsylvania preserves an unusually broad record of human activity from about 3500 BC to 1650 AD. In one location, archaeologists identified a Middle Woodland habitation site, a Shenks Ferry village, and a Susquehannock cemetery, revealing long and varied use of the lower Susquehanna region across prehistoric and early historic periods. Artifacts were noticed there by 1873, and excavations by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission in 1931, 1971, and 1975 confirmed its importance. A Swedish helmet from the reign of Gustavus II Adolphus also connected the site’s later history to the wider colonial-era world.
