Little Jack is a 6,745-foot summit in Washington’s North Cascades, in the Pasayten Wilderness near Jack Mountain, Crater Mountain, and Ross Lake. Named for gold prospector Jack Rowley, who was credited with finding gold at Ruby Creek, it also figured in early 1900s Forest Service use, when the Little Jack Trail was built to move pack animals to mountain meadows. Its runoff drains to the Skagit River. The mountain also reflects the region’s natural history: a wet marine west coast climate with heavy snow and avalanche danger, and a geologic past shaped by the Little Jack terrane, exposed granite and mica schist, and repeated Pleistocene glaciation.
