Welch Peak is the highest summit in the Cheam Range near Chilliwack in southwestern British Columbia, rising within the steep ridges, deep valleys, and granite forms of the North Cascades. Its name, along with nearby Foley Peak and Stewart Peak, reflects the legacy of the engineering firm Foley, Welch and Stewart, which built and operated the Lucky Four Mine nearby. The mountain is tied geologically to the Chilliwack batholith and the Pemberton Volcanic Belt, formed millions of years ago through volcanic and tectonic processes. Later Pleistocene glaciation carved the surrounding U-shaped valleys and sharp relief, while a marine west coast climate brings heavy precipitation and substantial winter snowfall.
