Highland Peak is a 10,936-foot summit in the northern Sierra Nevada of California, in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness east of Ebbetts Pass. More notable for prominence than sheer height, it is only California’s 680th-highest peak but ranks 36th among summits with at least 500 meters of topographic prominence, and no higher Sierra peak lies farther north. The Pacific Crest Trail passes its western base, and the mountain rises sharply above Noble Canyon. Its waters drain to tributaries of the East Fork Carson River. Named in 1878 by Lieutenant Montgomery M. Macomb during the Wheeler Survey, it honors the short-lived settlement of Highland City.
