Pyramid Point State Marine Conservation Area is an offshore protected area on California’s far northern coast near the Oregon border, covering waters from the shoreline to three nautical miles offshore and extending south to just north of Prince Island. Established in 2012 as part of California’s first statewide network of underwater parks, it was created to protect coastal habitats, wildlife, and the health of the ocean economy. Fishing and the take of living marine resources are generally prohibited, except for limited recreational harvest of surf smelt. Its waters and nearby shore support breeding birds, feeding marine mammals, nearshore rockfish, and a relatively wild coastal landscape.
