Posi-ouinge, the “Greenness Pueblo,” is a large prehistoric village near Ojo Caliente in northern New Mexico, associated with the Tewa of the northern Rio Grande. Dating from the thirteenth through the sixteenth centuries A.D., it was one of the Southwest’s largest settlements of its kind, with well over two thousand rooms in substantial blocks across the site. Its scale reflects a major community before Spanish colonization, and the surviving ground plan still conveys that size. Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993 for its information potential, the ruins remain an important source for understanding prehistoric life in northern New Mexico.
