Officers of the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge, chartered in 1858, commissioned construction of a private and public cemetery in August 1866. The public section opened on May 16, 1868, and lodge members were interred there thereafter as their deaths occurred. Many of the town's founders and early lodge members are buried within these fences, including Dr. Plumb, one of the town's first doctors, and his wife Catherine. The cemetery contains many early pioneers and veterans from W.W. I to Vietnam.
