O'Donnell Field was once one of the largest outdoor arenas in the state, hosting baseball and football games, track and field meets, rodeos, traveling carnivals, and the Clyde Beatty Circus. Built in 1916 for $400, it was originally called the "Depot Grounds" because it stood near the Bend railroad depot. In 1922 it was renamed for Bend resident Monte O'Donnell, a former catcher with the St. Louis Cardinals. The field served as the home of Bend town baseball teams, including the original Bend Elks. Fire destroyed the main grandstand in 1943, the field was used for the last time in 1946, and the stands were razed in 1947.
