The Cape Fear Lighthouse stood here until it was deactivated and replaced by the Oak Island lighthouse across the mouth of the river. Its wrought iron and steel tower rose 150 feet high, and its flashing lens could reach an 18-1/2-mile radius. The concrete footings remain to mark the site.
