Schooner Gulch State Beach
Nature
Schooner Gulch State Beach is a public beach on the Mendocino Coast of northern California, about 50 miles northwest of Santa Rosa. It is best known for Bowling Ball Beach, where natural spherical sandstone concretions appear at low tide. The beach draws visitors for surfing, fishing, picnicking, coastal hiking, and sunset views along its rocky Pacific shoreline and blufftop trails. Nearby offshore waters at Point Arena and along the coast to the south are protected within state marine reserve and conservation areas that help conserve marine life and coastal ecosystems. The abandoned settlement of Schooner Gulch once stood here, but no visible trace remains today.
