The Patrick and Margaret Kinney House in Lancaster, Wisconsin, is a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home built in 1951 for the Kinney family. Its commission grew from Margaret Kinney’s earlier work for Wright’s sister, Jane Porter. To limit costs, lawyer Patrick Kinney served as general contractor and took an unusually active role in construction, reportedly quarrying and hauling stone himself after the family chose stone instead of Wright’s suggested concrete block. The house uses a geometric plan of 30- and 60-degree equilateral parallelograms, with later enlargement by Wright apprentice John H. “Jack” Howe after Wright initially planned too few children’s bedrooms. The house was listed on state and national historic registers in 2007 and 2008.
