The Angelina County School Board created Fairview Common School District Number 69 in the late 1800s, and a one-room schoolhouse served students from a wide rural area. The first school term in 1898 lasted five months. Students met at Fairview Baptist Church from about 1905 until 1913, when the county school board reorganized the common school districts. Land for a school site was purchased in 1915, and a two-room schoolhouse was built in 1917, then enlarged in the 1940s with a cafeteria and an auditorium. The school became a community center for area residents, serving as a voting place and the focus of social activities, holiday events, and county-wide sporting events. It provided education for grades one through seven and also hosted programs that benefited farmers, with government advisors teaching agricultural techniques to increase production of cattle and local crops such as peanuts, corn, and cotton. The school closed in 1963 and was consolidated with the Lufkin School District.
