Pocomoke River State Park spans both banks of the Pocomoke River between Snow Hill and Pocomoke City, with Shad Landing and Milburn Landing occupying separate sections within Pocomoke State Forest. Recreational use began in the 1930s when the Civilian Conservation Corps developed facilities there, and Maryland gained control in 1939 before taking full possession in 1955. Its mix of freshwater swamp and upland terrain, at the meeting point of northern and southern physiographic regions, supports unusual ecological diversity. Bald cypress, tupelo, loblolly pine, and abundant wildlife share a landscape now used for fishing, boating, camping, hiking, biking, and other outdoor recreation.
