Built in 1909 at a cost of $14,000 on land donated by prominent citizen Frank A. Parker, Memorial Library replaced an ancient tavern that was moved down Elm St. to make way for the new building. The library took its name from a memorial wall listing all Goffstown residents who fought in American wars up to 1900. When it opened, it housed the town's fledgling book collection, the Rogers Free Library, which had begun in 1880 and been kept in the selectmen's room at the Opera House, the town hall. In 1910, its name was changed to the Goffstown Public Library, and in 1995 the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
