Built in 1846 by freed slaves of William Howard, who gave them 400 acres on which to build homes known since then as Free-Town, this church stands on land given by Albert Martin. Aside from a metal roof replacing the old wooden one, none of the original building material has been replaced. Its logs are held together by wooden pegs and chinked with clay.
