Early services were held in a hall put up by Wm. Balch, who founded Alvarado in 1851. The first church, built in 1866, burned in 1885. This Victorian building with a spire and lancet windows dates to 1886-1887. Annexes were added in 1940, 1950, and 1960. It still has its original bell.
