Mesilla Plaza was established in Mexican Territory in 1850. The U.S. flag was raised there on July 4, 1854. It served as the seat of the Confederate government in New Mexico from 1861 to 1862. It is designated Site No. 14, a Registered Cultural Property of the State of New Mexico.
