The Contemporary Austin became the city’s unified contemporary art museum in 2011 through the merger of the Austin Museum of Art and Arthouse at the Jones Center, reconnecting two branches of a history that began with the Texas Fine Arts Association in 1911. It operates as a single museum with two venues: the Jones Center downtown, an exhibition and education space, and Laguna Gloria, the historic former Clara Driscoll estate on Lake Austin with its villa, sculpture park, and art school. Together these sites support exhibitions, commissions, educational programs, collections, and broad public access to contemporary art in Austin.
