Sue-meg State Park is a six hundred forty-acre coastal park near Trinidad on California’s Redwood Coast, where forest, meadows, beaches, and ocean cliffs meet. The park’s name restores the original Yurok place name, Suemeeg, replacing Patrick’s Point in twenty twenty-one after a long Yurok campaign. California acquired the headland in nineteen thirty to protect its wooded coast and rock formations. A central feature is Sumêg Village, a reconstructed Yurok village built in the nineteen nineties at a historically used fishing camp, with traditional structures and later restoration work. Native plant stewardship and continuing restoration further underscore the park’s importance as both a scenic reserve and a visible place of Yurok history and culture.
