Wilson Mountain, a 7,122-foot summit in northern Arizona north of Sedona, is the highest peak in Sedona and the second-highest point in the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness. Rising more than 2,400 feet above Oak Creek Canyon in a mile, it is a striking landmark within Coconino National Forest. Its layered geology includes Coconino Sandstone, Schnebly Hill Formation, and a basalt cap, and its runoff drains toward Oak Creek in the Verde River watershed. The mountain was named for Richard Wilson, a bear hunter killed there in June 1885, and it is now a prominent hiking destination via the Wilson Mountain Trail.
