Slide Rock State Park in Oak Creek Canyon north of Sedona combines a natural creek slide, red rock scenery, and a rare preserved homestead landscape. Frank L. Pendley settled the site in 1907, gained title in 1910, built an irrigation system still used today, and planted an apple orchard in 1912 that helped shape the property’s enduring farm character. A road through the canyon and later tourist cabins expanded its use, while the park eventually became state-managed land in the 1980s. Today it includes a 43-acre working apple farm, a historic district listed on the National Register, popular swimming and trails, and a landscape long used for filmmaking.
