Doyle Peak is one of the highest named summits in Arizona and the fourth-highest in the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff. It was named for Allen Doyle, an early settler who arrived in 1876, brought the first cattle to town in 1881, helped lay out what became Weatherford Road, and took part in establishing Coconino County. The peak is also connected to the scientific history of the surrounding high country through the nearby Lowell Observatory station on Schultz Peak, where from 1927 to 1932 astronomers conducted high-altitude observations of planets, stars, nebulae, and meteors. In 2022, the Pipeline Fire heavily damaged Doyle Peak and burned its cabin.
