In a day and a half, Edward Marshall and his associates performed the famous Indian Walk for the Penn Proprietors of Pennsylvania from Wrightstown in Bucks County to near the present Mauch Chunk on September 19-20, 1737. At the end of the first day they slept near Hockendauqua Indian town, which was 1 ½ miles to the south, and the next morning they passed near this point. Later in 1737, Benjamin Eastburn, Surveyor General of Pennsylvania, ran the survey line on the Walking Purchase a half mile east of this point.
