Cooper Spur ski area is a small resort on Mount Hood’s northeast side, with limited alpine terrain, a single double chairlift, downhill runs, cross-country trails, and annual snowfall that supports winter recreation. The broader Cooper Spur Mountain Resort includes forested land with lodging and other amenities. After Meadows North LLC bought the area in 2001, Cooper Spur became the center of an ambitious proposal to expand into a year-round destination with additional lifts, runs, housing, and recreation. That plan sparked strong opposition over wilderness preservation, elk migration, watershed effects, and deforestation, while related land-exchange efforts also became controversial and ultimately failed.
