Rogers Peak, in Oregon’s Tillamook State Forest, is the highest point in Tillamook County and in the Northern Oregon Coast Range, giving it unusual prominence in northwestern Oregon. Officially named in 1964 after Nelson S. Rogers, Oregon State Forester from 1940 to 1949, it also reflects the region’s modern history through his role in rehabilitating the Tillamook Burn after devastating forest fires. The mountain itself grew out of a long geologic history involving Eocene and later sedimentary and volcanic formations, tectonic subduction, and Miocene uplift. Today it is a forested summit rich in Coast Range plant and animal life and is also a known hiking destination.
