THE STORY
Narrated · Plays hands-free in Travel Mode
The Sandusky-Columbus Pike opened in 1834. A toll keeper opened the pike gate to let travelers through, and the term turnpike came from the tollgate. A tollgate once stood at the intersection of Strongs Ridge Road and Columbus Pike.
