Built by miners in 1893, Grandview Trail on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park began as a working route, still marked by cobblestone paving and cribbing. Starting near Grandview Point, it descends rapidly through several rock layers on switchbacks, including a section rebuilt after storm damage in 2005, and continues to Horseshoe Mesa about 3 miles from the trailhead and 2,500 feet below it. Camping is permitted there by permit, but no water is available on the mesa. Near the Last Chance Mine, the trail splits into eastern and western spurs, while the main route continues to Tonto Trail junctions that connect to longer backcountry routes.
