This propeller is typical of the two used to propel World War II submarines. The one here is from the USS Torsk, which is on exhibit at Baltimore Inner Harbor. Torsk sank the last ship in World War II on Aug. 15, 1945. The propeller is 7 feet 10 inches in diameter and weighs 3500 lbs. It is driven by a 1250 hp electric motor that gets power from four 1500 horsepower diesel generators.
