A Baptist church was established on this site on September 5, 1891, by citizens of the Mount Pleasant Community and was named Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. The present church, built in 1948, stands across the highway on the former site of the Mount Pleasant School. Those remembered as meeting on this site to establish the church included A. J. Nally, L. W. Coley, W. W. Dellinger, W. M. Cornelison, Thomas Kimball, J. A. Shelton, Arthur Shelton, J. F. Young, Carl Young, California Cornelison, Elizza Kimball, Mary Dellinger, Julia M. Nally, Smithie Yancey, C. F. Shelton, and John Pleasant Worley, who donated the land for the church.
