The Railroad Office Building served as the Boyne City, Gaylord and Alpena Railroad general office during Boyne's lumbering era. Its construction date is unknown, but it was first located on the east side of Lake Street in Boyne City across from White's Number One Mill. On the evening of June 28, 1918, the mill burned to the ground and the office building was damaged by the fire. Between September and October of 1918, the building was moved to the northwest corner of Park and Ray Streets, where it now stands. The building was repaired, an addition was built on the rear of the structure, and the exterior was bricked. It continued to serve as the general office building for the BCG&A Railroad, the Boyne City Railroad from 1935 to 1976, and the Boyne Valley Railroad from 1976 to 1980. In 1976 the building was sold by the Boyne Valley Railroad and was then resold in 1982. The building was acquired by The Citizen in 1994. The newspaper was first published in 1897 as The Boyne City Enterprise, and its printing office was located on South Lake Street.
