Seven regiments of infantry and one artillery battery encamped at Scottsville in November 1862 as the 12th Division of the Army of the Cumberland under General Ebenezer Dumont. Among the soldiers there were future U.S. president Benjamin Harrison of the 70th Indiana, future Indiana governor James A. Mount of the 72nd Indiana, and future U.S. congressmen Ebenezer Dumont and Milton S. Robinson of the 75th Indiana. Miller’s Brigade included the 98th Illinois under Colonel Abram O. Miller, the 72nd Indiana under Colonel John J. Funkhouser, the 75th Indiana under Colonel Abram O. Miller, and the 18th Indiana Battery under Lieutenant Colonel William O’Brien. Ward’s Brigade was under General William T. Ward and included the 102nd Illinois under Colonel William McMurtrie, the 105th Illinois, the 70th Indiana under Colonel Daniel Dustin, and the 79th Ohio under Colonel Benjamin Harrison, with Colonel Azariah W. Doan also named.
