Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway, New Hampshire, began in the winter of 1937–38 under Harvey Gibson and became one of New England’s early destination ski areas through its base facilities, lodging, and ski school. Its early identity centered on the Skimobile, designed by George Morton for the 1938–39 season, and on Austrian skier Hannes Schneider, who arrived in 1939 and helped expand trails and operations. Cranmore also helped pioneer trail grooming in the early 1940s. Later decades brought lift modernization, ownership changes, and major upgrades. Today it operates year-round with extensive snowmaking, summer attractions, and a broad range of ski terrain.
