Nature
Echo Lake State Park in North Conway, New Hampshire, centers on fifteen point seven-acre Echo Lake beneath Cathedral Ledge and White Horse Ledge, combining a compact mountain lake with prominent cliffs that attract swimmers, picnickers, hikers, sightseers, and rock and ice climbers. A one-mile trail circles the lake, and an auto road and trails lead to Cathedral Ledge’s 1,159-foot summit, with views across the Saco River Valley toward the White Mountains and Kearsarge North. The area was preserved in stages: local residents and visitors bought Cathedral Ledge in 1899 and White Horse Ledge in 1900, and in 1943 Echo Lake was acquired to prevent commercial development and protect it for public recreation.
