1
The Bailey Island Bridge in Harpswell, Maine, is an exceptional engineering solution designed to meet unusual conditions and is the only one of its kind in the world. Its open split Maine granite cribwork permits the free flow of swift tidal currents and boat traffic while withstanding saltwater exposure and ice floes. The bridge was completed in 1928 and engineered by L.N. Edwards.
